SARTELL -- A last minute goal stole a Bemidji win in high school boys soccer action Saturday, as Sartell-St. Stephen’s late tally forced the teams into a 1-1 draw. Similar to their 3-0 win over Pelican Rapids on Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Lumberjacks were without their leading scorer, junior Silas Hess, due to turf toe, but this time they couldn’t pull out the win without him.
FALCON HEIGHTS -- The Bemidji High School boys and girls cross country teams took on a challenging course with a talented field on Saturday, competing in the Roy Griak Invitational at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights. “We had a pretty good day,” BHS head coach Ryan Aylesworth said. “Pretty tough field we faced. A lot of good competition, out-of-state competition, so it was a good experience overall on a pretty challenging course.”
BEMIDJI -- Babe’s Bell has found its first home in Bemidji. Following a 12-7 Lumberjacks win over Section 8-5A opponent Brainerd on Bemidji High School’s Homecoming Night on Friday at Bemidji High School, the Jacks earned the right to keep the trophy in its inaugural season.
BEMIDJI -- An Ethan Mock goal just 28 seconds in gave the Bemidji High School boys soccer team enough momentum to come away with a 2-1 win over Moorhead on Thursday under the Chet Anderson Stadium lights. “I saw Aidan (Helwig) go on the wide side and I saw he had an opening, so I crashed the net and it hit my body and and went in the net,” Mock said.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School football team welcomes the Warriors of Brainerd for a 7 p.m. tilt at Chet Anderson Stadium on Friday, and there is a lot on the line for both teams. “They’re well coached and they’ve got a solid, solid unit featuring section champs,” BHS head coach Troy Hendricks said. “We’ve known that they’re going to be there at the end. It’s just a matter of who’s going to play against them.”
BEMIDJI -- After a poor start and a 2-0 deficit to wake up the Bemidji High School girls soccer team on Tuesday, junior striker Lindsey Hildenbrand scored all four of the Lumberjacks’ goals to help them to a 4-2 comeback victory over St. Cloud Apollo at Chet Anderson Stadium.
PELICAN RAPIDS -- The Bemidji High School boys soccer team had a couple of firsts Tuesday night, as Quincy Wilson scored his first varsity goal and Josh Jernigan added his first of the season to help lift the Jacks to a 3-0 road win over Pelican Rapids.
MILACA -- The Bemidji High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the largest meet of the year on Saturday when they traveled to run in the Milaca Mega Meet. “It was a very good day,” head coach Ryan Aylesworth said. “I’m very happy with how they performed today and took a step forward. I’m proud of their efforts.”
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State volleyball team couldn’t find an answer for Shelby Spuller on Saturday, as the Minot State junior put up 19 kills to lead MSU to a 3-1 win at the BSU Gymnasium. After falling 25-20 and 25-21 in the first two sets, Bemidji State (5-10, 2-5 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) took the third set 25-22, but Minot (9-7, 3-4 NSIC) was quick to answer in set four with a 25-16 win to clinch the match.
MOORHEAD -- For the first time since 2012, the Bemidji High School football team defeated Moorhead on Friday night by a 43-28 score to win the battle for The Axe trophy and bring it back to Bemidji. Despite the 22-14 deficit going into halftime, the Lumberjacks (3-1) returned for the final 24 minutes and played nearly flawless football.
