BEMIDJI -- Bemidji High School senior Ryan Bieberdorf will represent the Lumberjacks at this year’s Minnesota High School Football All-Star Game, which features the best high school football players in the state. The game, which is set for Saturday, Dec. 15, at U.S. Bank Stadium, is part of the Minnesota Football Showcase, which begins Wednesday, Dec. 12. For the game, the player pool is split into North and South teams, and Bieberdorf will play for the North.
BEMIDJI -- Bemidji High School’s Evette Morgan is headed to Florida to play softball for Chipola College. With her parents and high school coaches present, the senior inked her national letter of intent Wednesday afternoon at BHS to play for the prestigious NJCAA softball team.
BEMIDJI -- With team Section 8A titles in each of the last seven seasons, the Bemidji High School girls swimming and diving team is no stranger to the state meet at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The Lumberjacks had their streak end this season, but they’ve sent five swimmers down to compete across seven events.
CLOUD -- In the cold, snowy conditions at the Class 5A state quarterfinal game at Husky Stadium on Saturday night, the winner would be determined by who could run the ball more effectively. Bemidji made the result clear by the end of the first half for a 38-7 lead and cruised through the rest of the game for a 51-15 win over Cambridge-Isanti.
BEMIDJI -- Due to penalties assessed to both teams in the last minute of the second period, Bemidji State’s Emily Bergland and Clair DeGeorge had some ice to work with. Bergland took the faceoff just outside the Ohio State zone, walked around the Buckeyes center and went in 2-on-1 with DeGeorge. After a pass back and forth, Bergland fired low off the pad of OSU goalie Andrea Braendli, and DeGeorge was there to clean up for a 2-0 BSU lead.
BEMIDJI -- In the team huddle after wrapping up practice on the Bemidji High School basketball court due to snow and darkness, head coach Troy Hendricks mentioned the two football banners hanging on the wall at the end of the gym. The banners were for the program’s state semifinalist appearance in 2012 and a state runner-up finish in 2011, and the Lumberjacks’ quest for a third starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 when the they take on Cambridge-Isanti at St. Cloud State’s Husky Stadium.
BEMIDJI -- In a year that marks a new wave with Mike Johnson taking over as head coach of the Bemidji High School girls hockey team, the Lumberjacks’ first matchup comes against the Green Wave. Bemidji heads to East Grand Forks for a 6 p.m. season opener Friday, Nov. 9. In the same game last season, the Green Wave shut out the Jacks, 2-0.
NORTHFIELD -- The Bemidji High School boys cross country team took 14th out of 16 teams while Regan DeWitt and Gwen Youso each finished in the top half individually for the girls at the Class AA state meet Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
BEMIDJI -- After placing second in the Class A state tournament with a 1-0 double-overtime loss to No. 1 Blake on Friday, a trio of Bemidji High School boys soccer midfielders, as well as attacker Silas Hess, were named to the All-Tournament Team. Ben Hess, Aspen Galdamez and Pau Mesegue didn’t show up much on the scoresheets during the Jacks’ three games in the tournament, but they did enough to prevent opposing chances and produce opportunities of their own to turn the heads of tournament officials.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Bemidji High School boys soccer team fell, 1-0, in double overtime to the Blake School in Friday afternoon's Class A state championship game at U.S. Bank Stadium. Bears midfielder Keegan James scored the game-winning goal off the kickoff to start the second overtime period with a 55-yard strike from the center circle. This story will be updated.
