BEMIDJI -- Sixty-one days of waiting are over for Jacob McNallan. The Bemidji State men’s basketball junior, who spent the past two months sidelined due to a shoulder injury, had his season revived last weekend by making his long-awaited return to the court.
BEMIDJI -- Spencer Konecne wasn’t one for smiling on Tuesday night. Even after the game-sealing slam in the final minutes of a 78-64 statement win over Moorhead at the BHS Gymnasium, Konecne kept his game face on. “I wanted to go into the game to dominate and play my best basketball,” Konecne said. “I think I did really good. The whole team played their part, and we did well.”
LITTLE FALLS -- For the first time since 2011, the Bemidji High School wrestling team is king of Section 8-3A. The second-seeded Lumberjacks ran through the section tournament field in Little Falls on Saturday, beating No. 10 Rocori 70-11 in the semifinals, No. 3 Brainerd 48-18 in the semifinals and No. 1 Willmar 39-20 in the finals to book state reservations after nearly a decade away.
BEMIDJI -- When Trinity Myer muscled in an and-one layup early in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Minot State, she put the Bemidji State women’s basketball team ahead by a point. For all of 25 seconds. MiSU stormed back and stormed away from there, turning a nail-biter into a 70-52 blowout at the BSU Gymnasium.
BEMIDJI -- Even though the duo of Ja Morgan and Cody Landwehr did everything they could for the Bemidji State men’s basketball team on Saturday, BSU fell just short against Minot State in a 79-76 overtime loss at the BSU Gymnasium. “I would say heartbreaking (sums it up),” Landwehr said. “We came into the weekend thinking we could get a sweep, first sweep of the year. Turns out you lose by a couple points. It’s pretty heartbreaking.”
BEMIDJI -- A furious start was all it took for the Bemidji State men’s basketball team on Friday. The Beavers roared ahead with the first 14 points of the night against U-Mary, hitting cruise control from there to claim a smooth-sailing 70-47 win at the BSU Gymnasium.
BEMIDJI -- U-Mary certainly played like its rematch with the Bemidji State women’s basketball team was personal. The Marauders blitzed the Beavers early and often at the BSU Gymnasium, avenging their only home loss of the season with a 73-53 road win on Friday.
BEMIDJI -- To the naked eye, there were no playoff implications at stake during Thursday’s game between the Bemidji High School boys hockey team and Thief River Falls. Don’t tell that to the Lumberjacks. Although BHS already knows its place in next week’s Section 8AA Tournament, Bemidji came up with a much-needed, 2-1 win over the Prowlers at the Bemidji Community Arena for a little boost heading into the postseason.
BEMIDJI -- It hasn’t yet hit Emma Rappe that her career is nearing its conclusion. As the Bemidji State women’s basketball senior approaches her last home weekend, she knows there’s still work to do. “I want to get us a couple wins and put us in a good position for playoffs, hopefully,” Rappe said. “I think this weekend is a really good opportunity for that.”
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State men’s basketball team is almost through the gauntlet of another season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. With light at the end of the tunnel, the Beavers are working on finishing strong.
