Tom Liapis, a 30-year plus elementary teacher at Blackduck School and a longtime coach of multiple sports retired at the end of the 2018 school year, but will continue to work as an assistant football coach for the foreseeable future, he says. Emotions ran high as his sixth grade team teaching partner, Alicia Moore, introduced Liapis and thanked him for all she’s learned from him on Friday, June 1 at the Blackduck Education Association awards.
BLACKDUCK -- The Blackduck Education Association presented its 2018 awards on Friday, June 1st to this year’s Teacher of the Year: Kari Slindee, and Friend of Education: Jacob Lien. Slindee is wrapping up her 34th year of teaching at Blackduck High School and nominators for the award were in agreement that the Teacher of the Year honors are long overdue for the energetic and positive teacher of both junior high and high school English and German 1 and 2 classes.
Blackduck hosted the first junior high tournament of the speech season, which also begins the point totals that determines the Northern Minnesota Speech Conference champions.
The Blackduck Drakes Speech Team hosted a varsity tournament on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Six distinguished Blackduck High School alumni were inducted into the Hall of Fame during the home basketball double-header Friday, Feb. 2.
Minnesota’s safest and fastest growing sport is trap shooting, and Blackduck’s shooters and coaches finished a very successful tournament on June 24 at the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League’s State Tournament in Prior Lake.
