A summer of construction on Highway 71 in Bemidji has begun to impact some local businesses cut off from the main routes of traffic.
The lane shift onto the U.S. Highway 71 southbound lanes in Bemidji will be extended further south to the intersection with Highway 197 on Thursday, June 23.

Minnesota Department of Transportation crews plan to start construction on the turn lane barrier early this week, City Administrator Amy Finch reported at the Crookston City Council meeting on Monday, Oct. 25.
The Bemidji City Council will hear from Minnesota Department of Transportation officials during a work session Monday regarding State Highway 197.
“I have been advocating for this for a long time, and as I said in my letter, nothing downtown has been altered, and I feel like this accident was preventable,” said Corene Everett.
