Doug Franke, area wildlife manager for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Thief River Falls, photographed this mule deer buck Jan. 14, north of Thief River Falls. The buck, which appeared physically healthy, was shot by DNR conservation officer Tony Elwell on Jan. 17 after acting disoriented and posing a threat to motorists.
