WRESTLING: Jacks open Rick Lee 2-1

BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School wrestling team went 2-1 on the day to open up the Rick Lee Invitational at BHS on Friday.

The Lumberjacks took down Ottertail Central 46-19 and Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena 61-9 in their first two rounds before a narrow 28-25 defeat at the hands of Detroit Lakes.

Five Bemidji wrestlers went a perfect 3-0 on the day: Seth Newby (120 pounds), Joe Hudson (126), Alan Wuori (152), Chance Hinrichs (160) and Peter Moen (195).

Each of the bunch picked up at least one fall, with Moen leading way through his two pins.

With their performance on Friday, the Jacks are guaranteed at least eighth place in the 16-team field. They can climb as high as fifth.

The Rick Lee will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday at BHS, with Bemidji taking on Brainerd, Kenyon-Wanamingo and Pierz.
