WRESTLING: Jacks drop a pair at Simley tri
INVER GROVE HEIGHTS -- The Bemidji High School wrestling team fell in both matches of a triangular at Simley High School on Friday, losing to the hosting Simley team 51-22 and St. Michael-Albertville 49-17.
In the Simley match, the Jacks surrendered a 30-0 lead after the first six weight classes and, despite wins in four of the bouts the rest of the way, couldn’t work their way back into contention.
Securing wins against the top-ranked team in Class AA were Dane Jorgensen (145 pounds, fall), Chance Hinrichs (170, fall), Nic Geiger (182, major decision), and Kaleb Beam (285, fall).
Against the Class 3A No. 4 Knights of St. Michael-Albertville, Bemidji forfeited the first three weight classes and lost the next five by decision or major decision.
Hinrichs finally put the Jacks on the board with a major decision victory at 160, and Peter Moen (195, fall) and Chase Smith (220, fall) also secured wins in the match, although it wasn’t enough to put a dent in the STMA lead.
