CASS LAKE -- Senior Trevor Janssen finished second in the 106 bracket and Hunter Wilcowski took third in the 195 Saturday to record the highest placements among Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena wrestlers after the second day of the Big Bear Wrestling Tournament.

Janssen began his Saturday with a win over Minnewaska eighth grader Easton McCrory by fall (1:26) in the semifinals before losing to Coon Rapids’ Alex Kowalchyk in a 10-2 major decision in the finals.

Wilcowski lost to Fosston/Bagley senior Jake Ubert in his semifinal match by a 5-2 decision, but went on to top Kyle Schmidt of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis by fall (4:45) and Staples-Motley senior Braden Tyrell in a 3-2 decision.

Lucas Reiplinger went 2-2 on the day to lock up sixth in the 138 bracket, while Michael Staples rounded out the Bears’ placers with seventh in the 132 with two wins and a loss.

The Bears next host Roseau for a 5 p.m. dual Tuesday, Dec. 19, at CL-B High School.
