GRAND RAPIDS -- The Bemidji High School wrestling team swept the competition Thursday night, topping Mora 44-28, Virginia 46-24 and the host, Grand Rapids, 57-18.

Against Mora, five Jacks (4-2) pins came from Bryce Golden in the 120 bout, Chance Hinrichs in the 160, Nic Geiger in the 182, Hunter Schoenborn in the 220 and Kaleb Beam in the heavyweight matchup.

Those, added to Jon Solum’s 20-5 tech fall victory over Jordan Lindquist in the 138, Colton Hinrichs’ 8-4 decision over Austin Voss and Nate Golden’s win by forfeit in the 145, made for a 44-28 win.

Bemidji surrendered just 18 points to Grand Rapids with losses at four weights, including one forfeit, one pin and two decision losses.

But they countered it with 57 points via pins from Bryce Golden (120), Solum (138), Colton Hinrichs (152), Chance Hinrichs (160), Justin Nelson (170), Ryan Yang (182), Schoenborn (220) and Beam (heavyweight).

Joe Hudson (132) also edged out his Thunderhawks opponent in a 12-11 decision, and Grand Rapids forfeited the 182 bout for the lopsided Bemidji win.

Bemidji fell behind Virginia twice in the match between the two teams, but it didn’t faze the Jacks. Dane Jorgensen and Cale Newby had back-to-back pins and Solum won a major decision to keep BHS in it with a 15-12 deficit, and the Lumberjacks took off from there.

Nate Golden, Colton Hinrichs, Alan Wuori, and Chase Smith picked up victories the rest of the way, while Virginia forfeited the 182 and 195 bouts to hand BHS the 46-24 win.
