BEMIDJI -- Jacqueline Kaasa of the Bemidji State women’s hockey team won her first Western Collegiate Hockey Association award Tuesday after being named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.

Kaasa led the WCHA and tied for second nationally by recording four points (2g-2a) over the weekend to help the Beavers (6-10-2, 4-7-1-1 WCHA) earn a series split on the road at No. 6 Minnesota. The North Hudson, Wis., native tallied all four points in Saturday’s 4-2 upset win by recording her first career multi-goal game and multi-point game, setting a career-best. Kaasa factored in on all four goals by the Beavers including scoring the game-winning goal and finished the weekend by going +3.

“I’m actually really excited for our team just in general because we don’t seem to get a ton of recognition all the time,” Kaasa said, “and it’s good to see our team be successful and win a big game against somebody like the Gophers.”
