MINNEAPOLIS -- Sophomore Jacqueline Kaasa and junior Emily Bergland each posted three-point games to lead the Bemidji State women’s hockey team to a 4-2 win over No. 6 Minnesota on Saturday at Ridder Arena.

The Beavers (6-10-2, 4-7-1-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) got started early with a goal from Kaasa at the 3:15 mark of the first period, assisted by Bergland and Bailey Wright.

But Gophers (14-5-1, 9-4-1-0 WCHA) sophomore Alex Woken evened the score just 23 seconds later, and the score was 1-1 until the middle period.

The only Gophers lead in the game came 2 minutes, 17 seconds into the second when Grace Zumwinkle got one past BSU goalie Lauren Bench for a 2-1 lead.

They held on until Wright earned her second point of the night to tie it back up. Mak Langei and Bergland were credited with assists on the play.

With everything knotted up going into the final frame, the Beavers took over and scored the only two goals in the third. Kaasa tallied the eventual game winner at the 5:14 mark, and Bergland added the insurance goal at an even six minutes in. Abby Halluska assisted the Kaasa goal, while Kaasa claimed a helper on Bergland’s.

Minnesota pulled its goalie, Sidney Peters, with 2:40 left to play, but BSU held on to take the 4-2 victory.

Bench earned her second win of the year by allowing just two goals in a 24-save performance.

The Beavers next host Rochester Institute of Technology for a series this coming weekend. Puck drop is set for 3:07 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9 at the Sanford Center.
