MOORHEAD -- A pair of double-double performances from Drew Sannes and Megan Hintz provided the difference on Saturday, as the Bemidji State women’s basketball team had no answer in a 70-47 loss at Minnesota State Moorhead.
Sannes put up 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Hintz added 19 and 10, making life difficult for the Beavers (2-6, 1-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) from the get-go.
The Dragon duo combined for all nine points in a 9-2 start for MSUM (6-2, 3-1 NSIC) before BSU responded. Sydney Arrington rattled off 11 straight Bemidji State points soon after to bring the Beavers back in it. Her last score, an and-one bucket after cutting to the hoop, made for a 20-18 game early in the second quarter.
MSU Moorhead took off from there, however. Sannes scored the final seven of a 9-0 run, making for a double-digit lead that held at 33-23 by halftime.
After Erica Gartner buried a three to open the third, the Dragons answered back in a big way. Giving up 14 in a row, BSU found itself in a 47-26 hole. Emma Rappe capped a closing 11-2 run for Bemidji State with back-to-back threes in response -- good for a 49-37 score -- but MSUM ran away in the fourth.

Opening with the first five and 12 of the first 15 in the fourth, MSU Moorhead opened up a 21-point lead. And without a final push by the Beavers, the Dragons cruised to a 70-47 win.
Arrington scored 15 to lead BSU -- 13 of which came in the first half -- while Rappe tallied nine and Gartner 8. It wasn’t enough to overcome the double-doubles from Sannes and Hintz, however, as MSUM had two double-doubles for a second consecutive night.
Bemidji State will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, looking to return to form when it hosts Minnesota Crookston at the BSU Gymnasium.
