BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School volleyball team will open up its Section 8-3A run at home on Wednesday.

The Lumberjacks (12-15) grabbed the section’s No. 6 seed when the bracket was announced Sunday, which earns BHS a home match against No. 11 seed Big Lake to open the postseason. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the high school.

The winner will advance to play at Brainerd at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

Sartell-St. Stephen won the top seed in the section after a 24-1 regular season. No. 2 Moorhead, No. 3 Brainerd and No. 4 Alexandria were also awarded first-round byes.

On Bemidji’s half of the bracket, No. 7 Detroit Lakes will face No. 10 St. Cloud Apollo in the first round. The winner will play Moorhead.

No. 5 Monticello hosts No. 12 St. Cloud Tech, and No. 8 Becker hosts No. 9 Sauk Rapids-Rice to round out the rest of the opening-round matchups.
