VOLLEYBALL: Jacks sunk by Grand Rapids, 3-1
GRAND RAPIDS -- The Bemidji High School volleyball team won its first set with Grand Rapids Thursday night, but dropped the final three to ultimately fall, 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-8, 25-16).
“I thought the first set we came out with some confidence and just playing really well,” BHS head coach Alicia Kriens said. “We were all just really doing our jobs, and we just brought a lot of energy. And then in the second set, Grand Rapids stepped it up and we just didn’t respond, and it kind of carried through to the next three sets.”
The loss dropped the Lumberjacks to 8-14, while the Thunderhawks improved to 15-12.
Emma Muller led BHS with seven kills and Rumer Flatness followed with four. Mikerra Mathews and Emily Wade each tallied 10 assists the pace the team.
On defense, Jenna Anderson posted a team-high 23 digs, while Emily Wade trailed with 16 and Taylor Wade with 13. Flatness also came up with two blocks.
The Lumberjacks will return to the BHS Gymnasium for their final home match of the season Tuesday, Oct. 16. Bemidji will host Duluth East at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
