VOLLEYBALL: Jacks win home opener over DL

BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School volleyball kicked off the home portion of its 2018 schedule with a 3-1 victory over Detroit Lakes Thursday night at the BHS Gymnasium. The win moves the Lumberjacks to 2-2 on the season.

The only blemish came in the first set for BHS. The Jacks fell 25-22 before rattling off three straight wins (25-19, 25-23, 25-20) to capture the victory in four sets.

Taylor Wade led the team with 12 kills, and was followed by Emma Muller (9) and Emily Wade (8). Emily Wade and Mikerra Mathews recorded 17 and 16 assists, respectively, to pace the Jacks. Rumer Flatness and Taylor Wade each notched three aces.

Defensively, Jenna Anderson came up with a team-high 13 digs, while Muller made 10. Kenzie Christianson recorded 3.5 blocks to lead Bemidji.

The Lumberjacks will next face Brainerd on the road Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 7:15 p.m.
