VOLLEYBALL: BHS falls in five sets to Elk River

HOPKINS -- The Bemidji High School volleyball team lasted five sets Saturday but fell to Elk River 3-2 at the Hopkins Breakdown Tip Off Classic.

After dropping the first set 25-23, the Lumberjacks (0-2) won the next two sets 25-23 and 25-19. The Elks hung on to take the fourth set 26-24, and then clinched the match with a 15-11 win in set five.

Taylor Wade led the Jacks with 11 kills while Emma Muller tallied eight. Emily Wade posted a team-high 23 assists and Mikerra Matthews followed with 20.

Defensively, Jenna Anderson recorded a team-high 18 digs with Mathews notching 16 and Muller 13.

Bemidji will next face St. Cloud Tech in a road match at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28.
