ST. MICHAEL -- The Bemidji High School volleyball team split its first two matches at the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament Friday night. The Lumberjacks fell 2-0 (25-11, 25-17) to Osseo before nabbing a 2-0 (25-18, 25-16) win over Byron.
Taylor Wade led the Lumberjacks (6-6) with six kills in the match against Osseo, while Ashley Hofstad recorded nine digs.
Taylor Wade again led the team in the second match with Byron by posting seven kills. Emily Wade, Rumer Flatness and Hofstad each tallied four. Mikerra Mathews recorded 17 assists for BHS.
Defensively, Kenzie Christiansen made a team-leading five blocks, and Jenna Anderson posted eight digs.
The Lumberjacks will continue tournament play by facing Grand Rapids at 10:45 a.m. today. They will play two more matches before the tournament is up against to-be-determined opponents.
