BURNSVILLE -- Bemidji State women’s track and field senior Christa Benson capped her college career with two all-conference honors, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced Wednesday.
Benson was named to the NSIC Outdoor Championship All-Conference Performers List in the heptathlon and the 400-meter hurdles.
All-Conference performers consist of the top three place winners in each event and the members of the top two relay teams from the conference meet, held May 11-12 in Duluth.
Benson compiled 4,689 points in the heptathlon, placing second behind Augustana’s Olivia Montez Brown (4,913). In the 400-meter hurdles, Benson posted a time of 1:01.97 for third, behind only Northern State’s Hanneke Oosterwegel (59.78) and U-Mary’s Julia Hammerschmidt (1:01.89).
The NSIC also announced the athletes of the year on Wednesday. Montez Brown earned Field Athlete of the Year, and Minnesota Duluth’s Danielle Kohlwey was named the Track Athlete of the Year.
Alysa Henry earned Newcomer of the Year honors for U-Mary, where Dennis Newell earned Coach of the Year honors. Augustana’s distance coach Scott Tanis was named Assistant of the Year, as well.
