TRACK AND FIELD: Stewart chosen as NSIC Track Athlete of the Week

BEMIDJI -- Due to her efforts placing second in the 200-meter dash and setting the Bemidji State women’s track record with a time of 24.78 at the South Dakota State Holiday Open on Friday, Nov. 30, BSU sophomore Venice Stewart was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Stewart, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., ran a provisional qualifying time with her finish in the race, which was second at the meet and third nationally this season.

In addition, the sprinter took fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.72 seconds, just one-hundredth of a second off her own BSU record, which she posted last year.

Bemidji State next competes at the Dakota Classic in Fargo, N.D., starting at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at North Dakota State.
