TRACK AND FIELD: Beavers earn points for NSIC Championships

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Bemidji State track and field team earned nine points Sunday and Monday at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships in Aberdeen, S.D.

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Bemidji State track and field team earned nine points Sunday and Monday at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships in Aberdeen, S.D.

Christa Benson finished second in the heptathlon to pick up eight points for the Beavers. Kylie Monson placed eighth in the event to add one point towards the team’s score for the NSIC Outdoor Championships.

For the third time in three weeks, Benson broke the BSU program record in the heptathlon with her second-place score of 4,689. She improved on her previous score and set another NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the process.

Monson scored 4,264 points to take eighth in the heptathlon.

Benson, Monson and Aneesa Tucker all set personal-record marks in the heptathlon, including Tucker’s 15th-place score of 3,490.

Besides the heptathlon, Benson set career marks in the shot put (31 feet, 10.75 inches), long jump (17-06) and javelin (94-01), Monson set career marks in the 100-meter hurdles (15.74), shot put (28-00.25), 200m dash (26.84) and long jump (16-11.25), and Tucker set career marks in the 100m hurdles (17.70), high jump (4-09.50), shot put (23-10), 200m dash (28.36) and javelin (80-09).

Bemidji State’s nine points put the team in a tie for second place overall with St. Cloud State heading into the NSIC Outdoor Championships May 10-11 in Duluth. Augustana is in first place with 10 points.

The Beavers will next compete at the Concordia-Moorhead Dual on Saturday, May 4.
