TENNIS: Beavers down UMD, 7-2
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State tennis team earned a 7-2 win over Minnesota Duluth in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match Thursday at the Gillett Wellness Center. The match was originally scheduled for Feb. 18, but was postponed due to snowy travel conditions.
The Beavers (4-3, 4-3 NSIC) picked up a pair of wins at doubles to begin the day. Hannah Alme and Brooke Mimmack prevailed 8-2 in their match, and Jacki Damberg and Rachel Will, scored an 8-3 victory. Zoe Lindgren and Breann Walsh fell to Shelby Benkofske and Megan Anderson, 8-3, in the No. 1 doubles match.
BSU was victorious in every singles match but one. Lindgren recorded a 6-0, 6-3 win at first singles. Alme and Mimmack also triumphed in the second and third singles matches, winning 7-5, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively. Will won easily 6-1, 6-0 in fifth singles and Hannah Peterson scored a 6-1, 6-1 win in sixth singles.
The only singles loss for the Beavers came in the fourth match where Katie Baasch won in three sets over Breann Walsh, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Bemidji State will next host Wisconsin-River Falls and Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, Mar. 4, at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively, at the Gillett Wellness Center.
