TENNIS: Beavers sweep Cobbers ahead of Senior Day

FARGO, N.D. -- The Bemidji State tennis team swept Concordia-Moorhead 7-0 in a nonconference match Saturday afternoon at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D. Later that evening, the Beavers learned they had received the No. 7 seed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament set for next weekend.

BSU claimed all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Zoe Lindgren and Hannah Alme won 6-1 in the No. 1 match, Ariadna Lopez-Simo and Laney Rutkowski prevailed 6-3 at No. 3 and Brooke Mimmack and Breann Walsh secured a 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 2.

Hannah Peterson won the first of six straight singles matches by claiming a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 slot. Following Peterson’s win, Walsh won her No. 5 singles match (6-2, 6-0), Mimmack was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in the No. 4 slot, Alme recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3, Lopez-Simo was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in the No. 2 match and Lindgren put the finishing touches on the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1.

The victory improves the Beavers to 10-6 overall and marks the fourth straight 10-win season for the program under head coach Mark Fodness.

Bemidji State will return home for its final regular-season match at noon Sunday against Wisconsin-River Falls at the Gillett Wellness Center. Lindgren and Walsh will be honored on Senior Day.

The Beavers, who finished 6-5 in league play, received the No. 7 seed for the NSIC Tournament and will face No. 2 MSU Moorhead in the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. The semifinals and final are set for Sunday, April 14. Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka is the tournament host.
