DULUTH -- The Bemidji High School softball team won its fourth game in a row with a doubleheader sweep at Duluth East on Tuesday.

The Lumberjacks came alive late in game one for a 7-3 victory, and the offense carried over early during an 11-1 game-two win.

In the opener, the Greyhounds (3-11) kept BHS (11-7) off the scoreboard in the first three frames. However, Bemidji put up three runs in the fourth and another three in the sixth, shooting out to a 6-2 advantage.

Both teams tacked on a run in the seventh to reach the 7-3 final.

Gabbi Takkunen contained Duluth East for the majority of the game, going seven innings in the circle and allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out two.

The Jacks had no shortage of firepower in game two. Maddie Hanson was perfect through four innings, and the Bemidji offense rolled out eight runs in the first.

A leadoff double for Cassie Bergman started the fifth inning, and she later scored to end the shutout. It didn’t make much of a dent in the scoreboard, though, because BHS added a trio of runs in the fourth inning en route to the 11-1 drubbing.

Hanson finished five innings of one-hit ball by surrendering the lone run, walking one and striking out three.

The Jacks will return home for a 4:30 meeting on Thursday, May 16, to host Grand Rapids at the BHS softball field.
