SOFTBALL: Burlingame, Beavers finish Florida trip strong
CLERMONT, Fla. -- Jessica Burlingame had her hands all over a sweep for the Bemidji State softball team in Clermont, Fla., on Friday.
The senior outfielder went 5-for-5 in the doubleheader with nine RBIs and five runs scored to power the Beavers to a 9-0 win over Indiana Tech and a 14-4 win over Lourdes, both in five innings.
In the opener against the Warriors (5-10), Makayla Pagel started the offensive outburst with a two-RBI single in the first inning. Burlingame then blasted a three-run home run in the second to help Bemidji State (13-7) out to a 5-0 lead.
The rout was on from there, and a four-run third -- plus a combined shutout from Olivia Tucker and Stephi Dullum -- made way for the 9-0 victory.
And in its Florida finale against the Gray Wolves (2-8), BSU went ahead 3-1 after two innings following an infield single for Burlingame that scored Sami Trana.
The Beavers ran away with it in the fifth, as they scored eight runs off three hits while sending 14 batters to the plate.
Kaidron McClafferty did enough from the circle, going the distance while allowing four runs off eight hits for the win.
Bemidji State closes its spring break trip with an 8-4 mark and will return to the diamond at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, to play Finlandia in West St. Paul.
