BRAINERD -- The Bemidji High School softball team bounced back from a 10-inning heartbreaker to Brainerd with a resounding win over St. Cloud Tech on Monday evening in Brainerd. The Lumberjacks fell 5-4 in 10 innings to the host Warriors before recovering for a 7-2 victory over Tech.

Chloe Munsch’s two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning delivered Brainerd a walk-off win in a marathon contest.

The Jacks trailed 4-0 after three innings but got on the board in the top of the fifth on Gracie Fisher’s RBI single. Three runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a collection of hits by Katie Alto, Evette Morgan and Emma Stanoch sent the game to extra innings knotted at 4-4.

Following a scoreless two innings, the Warriors (3-0) plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th to finally end the game.

“That was a good game,” Bemidji head coach Brad Takkunen said. “Brainerd just ended up executing a play there at the end to win the game with two outs.”

The Jacks overcame a 1-0 first-inning deficit by scoring three runs in the third and four in the fourth against Tech. The Tigers (1-3) added a run in the bottom of the fifth before the game was called due to darkness after five innings.

Gabbi Takkunen led BHS at the plate in the win by going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

“We just started figuring things out and had better at-bats and put more pressure on them,” coach Takkunen said. “We started playing the game a little bit more with a purpose I think after the first inning.”

The Lumberjacks, now 3-2 on the season, will continue their road swing by traveling to Duluth Denfeld for a 4:30 p.m. matchup Thursday, April 25.
