COON RAPIDS – The Bemidji Blaze 14U softball team won the Gold Bracket at the Cardinal Classic on June 3-5 in Coon Rapids.
The Blaze defeated Brainerd 23-2 and Cambridge-Isanti 9-2 in pool play, then dropped a 3-1 decision to MN Blast. But Bemidji tore through the Gold Bracket of the tournament and took first place by defeating North Branch and Centennial Lakes.
With that win, the Blaze earned a spot in the NAFA Northern Nationals, which will be played in either Lakeville or Prior Lake during the last week of July.
Players on Bemidji’s team are Olivia Birt, Hayden Dahl, Brennan Elting, Leah Fell, Mia Fornier, Ridley Hadrava, Karley LaZella, Isabelle Neal, Hayden Pirkl, Kylee Reimer and Kendall Tysver. The coaches are Alex LaZella and Dave LaZella.
Next up for the Blaze is the Crush Kickstart on Saturday, June 11, in Moorhead.
