WOMEN’S SOCCER: Neuharth named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week
EAST GRAND FORKS -- The Bemidji State women’s soccer team claimed its first ever victory over an NCAA Division-I opponent Sunday, Sept. 9, with a 1-0 win over North Dakota at East Grand Forks High School.
The Beavers (4-0, 1-0 NSIC), had just two shots on goal in the game, but Rachael Norton sent one of them past UND goalie Olivia Swenson in the 78th minute to break the scoreless tie.
The tally was the first the Fighting Hawks (4-1-1) had surrendered on the season, and it was enough for the Beavers to take the 1-0 win.
UND outshot the Beavers 12-7 with four shots on goal, all of which were saved by BSU goalie Anna Fobbe for her second shutout of the season.
Following the Beavers’ three wins last week (3-0 over Crookston, 3-1 over Michigan Tech, 1-0 over North Dakota), junior defender Tia Neuharth was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week.
Neuharth, who played 234 of 270 minutes on the week, joined the rest of the Beavers defense in allowing just one goal in their three games.
Bemidji State is back on the pitch at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, when they host St. Cloud State at Chet Anderson Stadium.
