KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For the first time this season, the Bemidji State soccer team is nationally ranked.
After a 1-0 season-opening win over Oklahoma Baptist, the Beavers were selected No. 22 in the Sept. 4 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women’s Poll. BSU also appeared at No. 3 in the Central Region Poll.
This week marks the program’s first appearance in the 2018 national poll and the sixth time in school history following a five-week run among the top 25 to conclude the 2017 regular season. The Beavers reached as high as No. 14 in the Oct. 31 poll.
BSU is one of two NSIC teams in this week’s top 25. Minnesota State (1-0-0) is ranked No. 13.
Regionally, the Beavers also used a 1-0-0 opening weekend to jump into the No. 3 spot in the NCAA Division II Central Region. The top six teams from each region advance to the regional tournament Nov. 9 and 11.
The Central Region is made up of the NSIC, the Mid-America Conference and the Great American Conference.
BSU opens the NSIC season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, against Minnesota Crookston at Chet Anderson Stadium.
