HOPKINS -- The Bemidji High School volleyball team dropped a pair of close matches to open up the Hopkins Royal Invite on Friday, losing 2-0 decisions to Burnsville and Blaine.
The Lumberjacks lost by set scores of 25-21 and 25-18 in the opener against the Blaze (8-4). In the nightcap against the Bengals (5-2), BHS fell by set scores of 25-19 and 25-22.
Against Burnsville, Beth Bolte tallied seven kills to pace Bemidji (3-4) in the abridged contest. Jordan Pemberton added three aces, and Margie Anderson collected all 17 set assists. Defensively, Adie Potratz dug out six balls, and Mollie Rupp had the team’s lone block.
Against Blaine, Rupp had seven kills to top the team leaderboard. Pemberton recorded another two aces in the match, and Anderson had another 15 assists. Bolte did plenty of work on the defensive end with 10 digs, and Sammy Nistler added nine digs.
The Jacks will close out the invite on Saturday, Sept. 17, back in Hopkins, starting with their pool-play finale against Mankato West at 9 a.m.
