ALEXANDRIA -- The Bemidji High School track and field teams took part in the Alexandria Invite on Tuesday, each placing fifth of seven teams and recording three event wins.
On the boys side, the Lumberjacks were strongest in the 800-meter run, where BHS had five runners in the top nine. Brooks Matetich won the event in 2:00.96, while Isaak McDonald also had a top-three time, placing third in 2:01.64.
Will Termont won the 1600-meter run in 4:53.37, while Matetich, McDonald, Bryce Kondos and Ashton Niemi won the 4x400 relay in 3:37.62. Bemidji’s second 4x400 team of Paul Louvar, Seth Newby, Sam Gifford and Termont placed second in the event in 3:40.53, as well.
The Jacks got two more top-three marks from Brett Kurschner in the 1600 (4:55.60) and from Carson Maish in the 3200 (10:15.87), both of whom placed second.
On the girls side, Kennedy Smith continued her strong shot put season for BHS with a winning distance of 34 feet, 2.5 inches. Joining her on top of the podium were Regan DeWitt, who won the 800 in 2:26.12, and Lauren Berg, who won the 300-meter hurdles in 45.94.

Four Bemidji runners earned silver with second-place times. Mia Hoffmann clocked a 2:26.19 showing in the 800, while Mady Schmidt finished the 100-meter hurdles in 15.75. Berg also earned second in the 200-meter dash at 27.69, and DeWitt was second in the 1600 at 5:25.30.
Hoffmann rounded out the team’s top-three marks by taking third in the 1600 with a time of 5:25.36.
In the team standings, Moorhead swept the boys and girls competitions. The Spud boys racked up 198 points, while their girls had 175.5. BHS tallied 57 points in the boys standings and 85 in the girls standings.
Bemidji will next be home for an invite at BHS that begins at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 23.
