DETROIT LAKES -- When the Bemidji High School softball team traveled to Detroit Lakes on Thursday, the Lumberjacks made sure to bring their bats.
BHS exploded for an 18-0 win, blasting past the Lakers with a bang and improving to 2-2 on the young season.
Lexie Tatro and Kat Malterud both belted home runs, with Tatro’s coming in the third inning and Malterud’s coming in the fourth.
But runs came all over the place, as Bemidji scored multiple in all four innings played. That included six runs apiece in the second and third frames.
The lively offense was backed by crisp pitching, as Mariah Graves spun a three-hit shutout in the circle for the Jacks. She struck out three batters and only allowed one base runner after the first inning.

All told, BHS had nine batters reach base twice or more. Four were on base at least three times, and none were better than Malterud’s 3-for-3 performance with a homer, a double and a walk.
Bemidji will try to carry its momentum into Virginia, where they’ll face the Blue Devils for a 4 p.m. game on Friday, April 29.
