BEMIDJI – The Bemidji High School softball team broke out the bats in a doubleheader sweep over Duluth Denfeld on Friday. The Lumberjacks rocked the Hunters 11-3 in game one before a 12-2 game-two victory at the BHS softball field.
Bemidji (5-7) wasted no time on offense in game one, first scoring on Lexie Tatro’s two-run home run in the first inning. Chloe Hasbargen also scored on a fielder’s choice in the second, but the Jacks packed most of the damage in the fourth.
Kat Malterud, Payton Weidemann and Jody Pemberton all singled in runs, and then Tatro belted another two-run blast for an 8-2 lead.
Even more runs scored in the sixth, when Pemberton and Elizabeth Oster combined for three RBIs on singles to close out the scoring.
Mariah Graves earned the win in the circle, spinning a complete game and allowing just three runs (two earned) off six hits.

In game two, the Lumberjacks took an early lead and kept adding on. Oster scored Tatro on a single in the first inning, then BHS added three in the second, highlighted by Weidemann’s RBI single.
The Jacks kept the pressure on in the third, with Beth Bolte, Hasbargen and Malterud all contributing run-scoring hits. Bemidji added five more in innings four and five to clinch the run-rule victory.
Pitcher Aleah Shogren kept Denfeld (0-6) honest, allowing just six hits and no earned runs while going the distance to pick up the win.
Bemidji will next take on Rocori in a noon doubleheader on Saturday, May 14, back at the BHS softball field.
