The Bemidji High School baseball team picked up its first two wins of the season on Saturday in Coon Rapids and Anoka. The Jacks improved to 2-1 after defeating the Cardinals and Tornadoes by identical scores of 6-2 on both opponents’ home fields.

In game one at Coon Rapids (1-4), the Lumberjacks trailed 2-0 after three innings but exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth. After scoring two runs on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a walk, the Jacks broke the game open with back-to-back two-run doubles by Ty Lundeen and Ethan Biehn.

Bemidji’s proficient pitching staff held the 6-2 lead the rest of the way. Peyton Neadeau fired three scoreless innings – allowing just two hits – to pick up the win, while Daniel Clusiau started and allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit in three innings. Ben Corradi closed it out with a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.

In game two at Anoka (4-2), BHS struck first with a three-run third inning. Corradi scored Will Zellmann on a fielder’s choice, then Lundeen laced a two-run double to left field to score Corradi and Caden Bolte.

The Lumberjacks doubled the lead in the sixth. Lundeen scored on a passed ball, Biehn scored on an error and Cam Justice scored on another error to give the Jacks a 6-0 advantage.
