LAKE MILLE LACS, Minn. -- A Minnesota fisherman might have just hooked a world record muskie using a fly.
Robert Hawkins, who owns Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop in Lake Elmo, said on his Facebook page he “caught a giant” on Lake Mille Lacs earlier this week.
The fish measures 57 inches long and is pending as a world record, said Hawkins.
He was fishing with two friends for about four hours on the massive lake northwest of the Twin Cities, a lake known mostly for its walleye fishing.
On his Facebook page, Hawkins wrote, “My good friends, Ben Olsen and Gabe Schubert, were up on Mille Lacs and there was an open spot in the boat so I went up to join them. This would not have happened without Ben Olsen's amazing knowledge of lake muskies and Gabe Shubert teaching me the ways of muskie fly fishing.”

He released the fish after documenting the catch.
In fact, video of the catch are available for viewing on his Facebook page and he said more videos and photos are coming in the next few days at www.facebook.com/BobMitchellsFlyShop/
