Morgan Miller stopped 32 of the 34 shots she faced but her teammates had trouble generating any offense and the Bemidji girls hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision Thursday at Roseau.

Thursday's setback was only the second for the Lumberjacks in the past 13 games and BHS will take a 13-10-1 overall record into its regular season finale Saturday at East Grand Forks.

The seeding for the Section 8-2A playoffs is Monday and Jacks coach Bob Brink is hoping that his team can crack the top four.

"I think the battle for the fourth and fifth spots will be between Bemidji and Sartell and we defeated Sartell (3-2) in our head-to-head so I hope that win will give us the edge," Brink said.

Thursday at Roseau the Rams (16-6-3) had the edge over the Lumberjacks as they outshot BHS 35-7. Bemidji skated with the home team in the opening period and neither team cracked the scoreboard.

"But we started to take penalties in the second period and being in the box killed any momentum we could have had," Brink said.

Roseau outshot the Lumberjacks 23-2 in the stanza but could manage only a 1-0 lead at its conclusion.

Bemidji's defense stiffened in the third period but Roseau used the power play to up its lead to 2-0 a minute into the session.

The Rams capped their victory with an empty net goal in the final minute.

"The girls battled hard and defensively played a great game," Brink said. "Our focus going in was to play strong defensively and we did that. Hopefully, the next time we see Roseau we will stay out of the penalty box and we'll see a different story."
