BLOOMINGTON -- Bemidji State men’s hockey senior Justin Baudry and freshman Owen Sillinger each earned weekly honors from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association on Monday after BSU’s five-point weekend at Ferris State.
Baudry was selected as the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, while Sillinger was named the league’s Rookie of the Week.
Baudry, a La Broquerie, Manitoba, native, led the WCHA in scoring with two goals and three assists, including a career-high four points (2g-2a) in a 6-1 win on Saturday, Feb. 9. The blueliner also contributed to the penalty kill unit that held FSU without a goal on six power-play tries, which included a five-minute major.
Sillinger, a Regina, Saskatchewan, native, topped all WCHA rookies with two goals on the weekend for his second Rookie of the Week award this season. He netted both in Saturday’s win, including a shorthanded effort for the latter goal. It was his ninth goal of the season, which leads all BSU rookies and is tied for first among league newcomers.
Sophomore Zach Driscoll was named as an honorable mention for Goaltender of the Week after stopping 56 of 60 shots for a 1.92 goals against average.
Minnesota State’s Dryden McKay was named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week, and MSU’s Marc Michaelis was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Miller suspended 1 game BLOOMINGTON -- The Western Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s League office suspended Bemidji State sophomore forward Aaron Miller one game, it announced Monday.
The suspension is a result of Miller’s five-minute major penalty and game misconduct infraction for checking from behind, which happened at the 8:22 mark of the second period in Saturday’s game against Ferris State.
BSU’s next scheduled game is Friday, Feb. 15, against Northern Michigan at the Sanford Center. Miller would be eligible to return Saturday, Feb. 16.
