Ben Corbid has started his spring season in style. The Bemidji State fifth-year was strong right out of the gate at the Maverick Spring Invite, finishing second in the tournament.
Backed by strong performances from both Ben Corbid and Rylin Petry, Bemidji State climbed to second during the final round of the Maverick Spring Invite on Tuesday at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Beavers coach Ekren Miller announced on Tuesday the addition of seven new student-athletes: Tony Carlin, Ryan Engel, Saylor Kuenzel, Teagan LaPlante, Cullen Ryan, Alex Tanner and Charlie Williams.
The Beavers fired a team score of 889, which put them within the top quarter of the 12-team field. Only Washburn (869) and Missouri Western State (882) had better scores.
Bemidji State men’s golfer Ben Corbid paced the Beavers at the Northeastern Oklahoma State Classic on Monday and Tuesday, tying for 17th among 98 golfers down in Muskogee, Okla.
Ben Corbid was describing his game, but his sentiment is also befitting of how he approached whether or not to play college golf for another year: “Indecision is never a good thing,” he said.
Fifth-year golfer Ben Corbid was selected as Bemidji State’s Preseason Golfer to Watch after posting a 76.3 scoring average across 10 rounds last year.
Monday’s team award follows the announcement of last week’s All-America Scholars from the GCAA, in which Bemidji State’s Seth Schricker and Jack Southard were named as honorees.
Bemidji State men’s golfers Seth Schricker and Jack Southard were named 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Division II by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday afternoon.
The Bemidji State men’s and women’s golf programs announced their 2022 fall schedules on Thursday. Both teams will participate in four tournaments, highlighted by home opens on Sept. 12-13.
