BOYS HOCKEY: Jacks, Knights battle to 3-3 tie
ALBERTVILLE -- The Bemidji High School boys hockey team shot out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period, only to settle for a 3-3 tie with St. Michael-Albertville in a Section 8AA contest Saturday afternoon in Albertville.
Tate Hammitt needed only 2 minutes, 35 seconds to put the Lumberjacks on the board with the lone goal of the first period.
Ethan Maish extended the lead to 2-0 early in the second period with his goal at the 4:35 mark.
However, the Knights fought back and tallied twice in less than six minutes to level the score. Nate Swenson scored the first and Adam Flammang buried the equalizer at 15:51.
The game wasn’t tied for long.
Wyatt Halvorson found the back of the net with 25 seconds left in the frame to send Bemidji to the locker room with a 3-2 lead.
Flammang was not done yet, however, as he quickly tied the game at 3-all just 26 seconds into the third period. Even after overtime, that’s where the score came to stay in the 3-3 tie.
The Lumberjacks moved to 6-9-1 with the result, while STMA now stands at 8-3-3.
Bemidji will be in the great outdoors for its next game Saturday, Jan. 19.
The Lumberjacks will face Greenway on Hockey Day Minnesota on the south shore of Lake Bemidji. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
