GIRLS HOCKEY: Marcotte powers 2-1 Bemidji win

BEMIDJI -- Maggie Marcotte bagged a pair of first-period goals to lead the Bemidji High School girls hockey team to a 2-1 win over River Lakes on Friday at the Bemidji Community Arena.

Marcotte’s first score came unassisted, as she broke loose for a breakaway midway through the opening frame and gave the Lumberjacks (6-11-0) a 1-0 edge. Late in the first period, Marcotte struck again, this time with assists from Olivia Johnson and Austyn Tobey, for a two-goal lead.

The Stars (7-11-1) scored in the final minute of the third period to pull within one, but Nettie Kimble held firm from there to secure the win.

Kimble finished with 28 saves in net for Bemidji, while Nicole Wander had 18 for River Lakes.

BHS is back to the ice at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Roseau.
