BOYS HOCKEY: Bemidji falls 3-2 to EGF
EAST GRAND FORKS -- The Bemidji High School boys hockey team hung with East Grand Forks in a tightly-contested game Thursday night, only to fall 3-2 on the road.
The Green Wave, ranked No. 4 in Class A, struck first with a goal by Tanner Mack just 17 seconds into the game. Mack is the brother of Bemidji State women’s hockey junior Haley Mack.
Late in the frame, Josh Nelson increased the lead to 2-0 with his goal at the 13:54 mark.
Chase Fillipi put the Lumberjacks on the board in the second period, cutting the deficit half at the 8:54 mark of the frame.
EGF maintained a one-goal lead into the third period until Mack tallied his second goal of the night with under seven minutes to go.
Bjorn Jorgenson narrowed the Green Wave lead back to one goal with 36 seconds to play, but Bemidji was unable to deliver an equalizer.
Wyatt Halvorson assisted on both of Bemidji’s goals.
Broc Waldhausen stopped 20 of 23 shots in net for the Lumberjacks. Tucker Brown made 21 saves on 23 shots in the win for EGF.
The loss drops Bemidji to 6-9-0 on the season, while the win improves the Green Wave to 12-3-0.
The Lumberjacks will return to Section 8AA play this weekend with a road game at St. Michael-Albertville. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12.
