BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State women’s hockey team announced the addition of Cheyenne Abear to the program Wednesday.

Abear was previously committed to Union but has since signed a BSU Offer of Admission. She will be on campus in Bemidji this fall and in time for the 2019-20 season.

The 5-foot-3 forward from Brainerd netted over 30 points as a senior for Brainerd/Little Falls in 2018-19. She was a four-year letterwinner on the team and guided the Warriors to a 77-22-1 record over her four seasons.

Brainerd/Little Falls also reached the Class AA state championship game in 2019 after Abear scored the game-winning overtime goal in a 3-2 state semifinal win over Andover. Abear netted the opening goal of the state championship game against Edina, as well, but the Warriors fell 4-3 in double overtime.

Abear was named to the 2019 Class AA All-Tournament Team with three goals and three assists in the state tournament.

Abear joins Paige Anderson (forward, Andover), Kate Boland (defense, Northfield), Abigail DeLaRosa (defense, Hugo), Reece Hunt (forward, Nelson, British Columbia) and Mya Neugent (forward, Sun Prairie, Wis.), all of whom signed National Letters of Intent in November.

The Beavers open the season Sept. 27 with a home exhibition against the University of Regina at the Sanford Center. Their first regular season series comes Oct. 4-5 in a home meeting with Lindenwood University.
