WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Dowhy named WCHA Goalie of the Month
BEMIDJI -- Freshman goaltender Kerigan Dowhy of the Bemidji State women’s hockey team has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goalie of the Month for February.
Dowhy led the Beavers by going 3-1-0 during the month with wins over No. 6 Ohio State to close the regular season and a pair of playoff victories against Minnesota Duluth.
The native of The Pas, Manitoba, was tabbed WCHA Rookie of the Week Feb. 20 and 27 and now earns her first career monthly award.
Dowhy posted the league’s second-best save percentage (.941) during the month and third-best goals against average (1.51). She began February with a 28-save, 2-1 win over the sixth-ranked Buckeyes and then led BSU to a playoff-series win over the Bulldogs. Dowhy stopped 29-of-30 shots to win Game 1 of the series and followed with her first career shutout in Game 3, a 24-save performance, to send the Beavers to the program’s third WCHA Final Faceoff.
Bemidji State travels to Minneapolis this weekend to face top-ranked Wisconsin in a WCHA Final Faceoff semifinal Saturday, March 3. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:07 p.m. at Ridder Arena with the winner advancing to the championship game Sunday, March 4.
