THIEF RIVER FALLS -- The Bemidji High School girls tennis team claimed an important 4-3 win at Thief River Falls Monday.

After a 3-5 start to the season, the Lumberjacks (10-5) have gotten hot recently as they extended to their win streak to seven.

“This was a really big win for our girls and I'm proud of their effort and focus on the courts today,” BHS head coach Mark Fodness said. “We were on the short end of a lot of tiebreaker matches early in the year but today we were able to flip just enough points to bring home a victory.”

BHS got off to a strong start as Savannah Haugen and Taylor Offerdahl picked up straight set wins in first and second singles. Aftyn Schmidt had to default at 1-1 in the second set due to an injury, and the Prowlers took fourth singles as the teams split at singles.

Following a loss in first doubles, the Lumberjacks needed to win their final two matches to clinch a victory.

They did just that with Nettie Kimble and Bethany Chatterton, and Kylen Fenson and Chloe Hasbargen taking second and third doubles with tiebreaker wins.

The Lumberjacks will step right back into action Tuesday, Sept. 25, with a road match at Grand Rapids set for 4 p.m.
