MOORHEAD -- The Bemidji High School girls tennis team split in its triangular in Moorhead on Thursday, defeating Fergus Falls, 5-2, before falling to the Spuds by the same score.

"We definitely got a taste of fall weather today with some cool and windy conditions," BHS head coach Mark Fodness said. "With several players out of the lineup due to injury, illness and travel, we needed players to step up and give us their best effort. Even though we split our matches today, I was really pleased to see the way our players performed on the courts."

In the win over the Otters, the Jacks (11-6) swept singles play and picked up another win at second doubles.

Taylor Offerdahl was the first to finish at the top singles court, topping Renee Scheving 6-1, 6-1. Eva Laituri and Kylen Fenson followed with straight-set victories at fourth and third singles, respectively, and Chloe Hasbargen and Nettiel Kimble clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Elissa Lee and Ara Weber at No. 2 doubles.

Also winning for the Jacks was Bethany Chatterton with a 6-2, 5-7, (10-8) win over Elizabeth Hauge.

The Bemidji losses came at first and third doubles, both in third-set tiebreakers. The Otters’ pairing of Ellie Colbeck and Kailyn Richey beat Lexi Leitner and Hannah Nelson at the top spot, while Olivia Kaliher and Carlie Meis defeateed Mary Beth Mathews and Haley Bahl.

In the nightcap against the Spuds, Taylor Offerdahl finished her 2-0 day with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Katrina Hanson, and the duo of Chatterton and Carly Swanson-Garro teamed up to top Rachel and Emma Craig, 6-2, 6-3.

Tatum Offerdahl, Kylen Fenson and Eva Laituri each dropped their singles matches, as did the pairings of Leitner and Nelson and Kimble and Hasbargen.

The Jacks are back on the courts at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Crookston to take on the Pirates.
