The Blackduck girls basketball team have not had an easy time this season so far. Their record is 1-5 on the season with the only win coming Dec. 4 against Kelliher/Northome, 65-35.
The Lady Drakes started the season off with 76-39 loss to Northland Remer Dec. 1, followed by a 61-49 loss to Deer River Dec. 3. The girls then dropped a 60-58 heartbreaker to Laporte Dec. 8.
Dec. 11, the Lady Drakes hosted Pine River, losing 83-48.
Blackduck head coach Tom Liapis noted that Pine River was a strong team. "We played much better in the second half ," he said, "scoring 30 points."
Leading the scoring for Blackduck was Mollie Exner with a tremendous 32 points.

"Mollie had a good game," said Liapis.
Exner also was six of 11 from the free-throw line. Also scoring for Blackduck was Jamie Magoon who added 6 points, Tatum Mistic and Sam Mistic each added 4 points and Siera Savich added 2 points.
The Lady Drakes' next opponents were the Nevis Tigers, who beat the Drakes 60-38 Dec. 15.
Scoring for Blackduck was Magoon with 12 points and was 2 for 2 from the free-throw line. S. Mistic added 11 points of her own and was 5 of 6 from the line. Savich put up 10 points and was 2 for 4 from the line. Exner added 5 points and was 3 for 6 from the line.
"We worked hard but just couldn't set shots to fall early," said Liapis.
Dec. 17 saw the Drakes take on a tough Cass Lake team, losing by just 2 points, 54-52.
The game was tied 27-27 at the half.
"This was a very fun game," said Liapis. "We went back and forth the whole way and rebounded very well."

Savich led the way for the Drakes with 18 points and going 4 for 5 from the free-throw line, followed by Magoon with 13 points and going 3 for 7 from the line.
S. Mistic added 8 points and had 16 rebounds. Magoon put up 7 points and was 3 for 6 from the line, Alex Ziegler added 4 points and T. Mistic put in 2.
The Lady Drakes took on Lake of the Woods Dec. 21 and lost, 64-24.
The Lady Mustangs haven't fared much better than the Drakes, losing their first game of the season to Blackduck then falling to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Dec. 8, 62-18. Nevis beat the Mustangs Dec. 11, 67-37 and Lake of the Woods beat them 72-29 Dec. 15.
The only win of the season so far for the Lady Mustangs came Dec. 18 when they beat Indus 59-20. They then lost against Pine River-Backus, 56-21 Dec. 19.
