BEMIDJI -- Bemidji High School junior and girls basketball standout Rumer Flatness will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 basketball season with a torn ACL, BHS head coach Steve Schreiber confirmed.

Flatness left the Lumberjacks’ season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 28, after just seven minutes, when she went up for a layup and came down awkwardly on her left leg, resulting in the injury.

“It’s an ACL tear, complete tear. No MCL damage, no meniscus damage,” Schreiber said. “Probably six months (of recovery)... Hopefully surgery next week.”

Flatness recorded a team-high 12.1 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore last year. Bemidji went 14-13 and Flatness recorded her 1,000th career point on Jan. 24., but she will now be sidelined until her senior season.

“It could’ve been worse. It could’ve been her senior year, it could’ve been right before playoffs or something like that,” said Schreiber. “It’s a bad situation, but we’re hoping we can make the best of it. Hopefully these girls are going to learn how to function without her, so that when she comes back, we’ll be stronger.”
