HIBBING -- The Bemidji High School girls basketball team hung with Hibbing Tuesday night but came up short in a 73-68 loss.
The Lumberjacks made up two points from their 38-31 halftime deficit but sustained their second loss of the season.
“I feel like we did a lot of things wrong and still made it a game,” BHS head coach Steve Schreiber said. “If we can clean some of that stuff up we’ll be in good shape.”
Bemidji clawed back from a 20-point deficit to get to within three points with a minute to go.
“We fought back again but came up just short,” Schreiber said. “I don’t want to be that team that is constantly coming up a point or two short because we’re not playing very hard in the first half. Hopefully we can turn it on in the first like we did in the second half today.”

Sophomore Taylor Wade scored four points and played a key part in the late-game surge, Schreiber said.
“Taylor Wade really stepped up big for us. This was her first varsity game ever and she probably played eight of the last 10 minutes. (She had) a bunch of steals for us, a couple points. Kind of got us back into the game.”
Kennedy Mills led Bemidji with 21 points while Allison Beard added 10.
Ashley McDonald led all scorers with 32 points and Kourtney Manning tallied 25 for the Bluejackets (4-1).
The Lumberjacks will continue their three-game road swing at St. Cloud Apollo Friday, Dec. 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
