BEMIDJI -- Bemidji High School senior Alex LaZella recently signed his National Letter of Intent to play football for St. John’s University.

The offensive lineman helped the Lumberjacks to a 10-2 record in 2018, which included an eight-game winning streak that carried BHS into the Class 5A state semifinals.

The Johnnies, meanwhile, are coming off a 12-1 season and a run to the Division III quarterfinals, where they lost 21-18 eventual national champion Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas).

St. John’s will begin its 2019 season Sept. 7 at UW-Stout before opening Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Gustavus Adolphus on Sept. 21 in Collegeville.
