LETHBRIDGE, Alberta -- The U.S. men’s four-game win streak came to an end Tuesday at the 2019 World Men’s Curling Championship in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Americans fell 7-4 to Switzerland after a disastrous ninth end.
John Shuster (Superior, Wis.) and teammates Chris Plys (Duluth), Matt Hamilton (McFarland, Wis.) and John Landsteiner (Duluth) had played well against Switzerland’s Peter de Cruz rink until the ninth end. A series of misses by the U.S. led to the Swiss making a takeout to score four points en route to the win.
The Americans are now 4-2 overall midway through the 12-game round robin. Switzerland kept its unbeaten run alive and now sits at 6-0 to lead the field alongside Canada’s Kevin Koe rink.
The U.S. returns to action Wednesday to take on Italy (3-2) and China (1-5).
